Life on a Cocoa Farm

A Day in the Life: Life in a Farming Village

Life is hard on a small tropical farm. The village is the center of community life, a place where children and adults learn how to work together, to live peacefully, and to respect the land that supports their families.

At certain times of the year, people gather together to celebrate special occasions or just enjoy each other's company. The farmers also meet to discuss farming techniques, cocoa prices and village affairs.

On most days, children from surrounding farms attend a small school in the village where they all sit together in one large classroom. There they learn math, history and even English.

After school, the children spend time with their friends and play soccer (which they call football).
